vatra is a tab navigator that runs entirely on your device. Your tabs, your history, and your settings never leave your browser. The only thing vatra ever sends anywhere is feedback you type and submit yourself — see Feedback you choose to send below.
What vatra accesses, and why
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Open tabs (titles, URLs, favicons) | To show and search your tab list, sort by recency, and group by domain | Kept in memory and in Chrome's local extension storage on your device |
| Tab activity (when you switch to a tab, how often) | To compute the "attention" score that orders the Hot view and to sleep unused tabs | Chrome's local extension storage on your device |
| Browsing history (searched on demand) | To show matching pages under the search box while you type | Read locally, displayed, never stored or transmitted |
| Settings (colors, panel position, preferences) | To remember your configuration | Chrome's local extension storage on your device |
| Feedback you type and submit (message, optional email) | To tell the developer what is broken or missing | Sent to Formspree, which emails it to the developer; a copy stays in local storage. Never sent unless you press Submit |
Feedback you choose to send
vatra has a feedback box in its settings panel. It does nothing until you type a message and press Submit. When you do, and only then, vatra sends the message text and — if you filled it in — your email address to Formspree, a form-relay service that forwards it to the developer by email. Your email address is optional; leave it blank and the message is sent anonymously. A copy is also kept in Chrome's local extension storage on your device.
No tab titles, URLs, history, or settings are attached to a feedback submission. Only what you typed.
When you uninstall vatra, Chrome opens a short exit-survey page hosted on GitHub Pages. Answering is entirely optional, and closing the tab sends nothing. If you do answer, the same Formspree relay applies.
What vatra does NOT do
- Your tabs, browsing history, and settings are never transmitted anywhere. Apart from feedback you explicitly submit, vatra makes no network requests of its own. (Site icons are served by Chrome's built-in favicon cache.)
- No analytics, telemetry, error reporting, or tracking of any kind.
- No advertising, no profiling, no third-party trackers.
- No sale or sharing of any data with anyone.
- No remote code — all code ships in the extension package and is reviewed by the Chrome Web Store.
Data retention & removal
Everything vatra stores lives in Chrome's local extension storage. Records for closed tabs are pruned automatically. Uninstalling the extension deletes all of its data permanently.
Feedback you submitted is retained by the developer for as long as it is useful for fixing the thing you reported. To have a submission and any email address attached to it deleted, write to the contact address below.
Limited Use
vatra's use of data obtained through Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements: data is used only to provide the single, user-facing purpose described above.
